That's not true. I'm gay and have a girlfriend because I also identify as female. 

I'm gay and I came out in 2008. At the time, I had an uncle who was a biker (and a few friends with similar family ties), and I have to admit, I was terrified at the idea of coming out.
 

But my uncle said something that day that I’ll never forget (and that actually earned him a slap from my aunt):
 

He said, “Look, if you’re gay, I don’t give a <deleted>—as long as you’re happy, that’s what matters. Actually, it’s even better—means more women for me. By the way, aren’t you guys known for having tons of female friends? Introduce me to some, would you?” 
 

I’ll always remember that moment because, honestly, it made total sense. If you’re straight, why wouldn’t you be glad someone else is gay? That’s less competition!
 

Nowadays though, I couldn’t care less what people think. I do my thing, others do theirs, and that’s that.
 

But I’ll tell you what, when I see these so-called “alpha” straight men constantly obsessing over where other men put their dicks, always criticizing what another man does in his own bed... my gaydar starts blaring like a damn alarm.

Gay was originally used as a term for immoral straights.

It's usage declined but was retained by the LGBT+ community as an umbrella term for same-sex attraction.

Research shows there are gay populations in about 1500 animal species, no reason to suppose homo sapiens should be any different.
