Recent analyses of presidential language consistently show that Donald Trump uses language at a lower grade level compared to most other recent presidents, including Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and George W. Bush.1

Here's a breakdown of common findings:

Donald Trump:

  • Consistently lower: Multiple studies, including those using the Flesch-Kincaid readability test, have found Trump's spoken and written language (excluding social media) to be at a remarkably low grade level, often in the 3rd to 7th grade range. Some analyses even placed him at a 4th-grade level or below.
  • Simplicity and directness: His language is characterized by a significantly simpler and less diverse vocabulary and grammatical structure than his predecessors. He often uses shorter sentences, repetition, and intensifiers, which contributes to this lower readability score.
  • Strategic vs. inherent: While some suggest his simple language is a deliberate rhetorical strategy to connect with a wider audience and mirror average conversations, others point to it as an inherent characteristic of his speaking style.

George W. Bush:

  • Varied, but generally higher than Trump: George W. Bush's language analysis results vary depending on the specific speech or test used. Some analyses place his State of the Union addresses around a 9th or 10th-grade level. However, one specific study noted his grammar during campaign speeches as being at a 5th-grade level, which was even below Trump's in that particular analysis. Generally, his vocabulary in campaign speeches was considered to be at least an 8th-grade level.

Joe Biden:

  • Higher than Trump, comparable to Bushes: Analyses of Joe Biden's language generally place him at a higher grade level than Donald Trump. For example, some studies found his language in debates or news conferences to be around the 4th to 7th grade level, which is comparable to or slightly higher than George W. Bush's scores in similar contexts.
  • Accessible but not overly simplistic: While aiming for plain language to reach a broad audience, Biden's speeches tend to be more complex than Trump's. His victory speech in 2020, for instance, scored around a 6.3 Flesch-Kincaid level, indicating easy accessibility for the general public.4

Barack Obama:

  • Mid-to-high range among recent presidents: Obama's language is generally found to be more sophisticated than Trump's and often slightly higher than George W. Bush's. His State of the Union addresses have been analyzed as being around an 8th to 9th grade reading level.5
  • Intentional clarity: While capable of complex language, Obama was noted for intentionally keeping his public speeches clear and accessible, often using succinct sentences and shorter words, particularly in State of the Union addresses, to ensure broad comprehension.

Overall Trends:

  • Decline in complexity: There's a general trend of decreasing linguistic complexity in presidential speeches over time, with modern presidents generally using simpler language than historical figures like Abraham Lincoln (who often spoke at an 11th-grade level or higher).6
  • Audience connection: The move towards simpler language is often attributed to a desire to connect with a broader, more diverse audience in an era of mass media and direct communication.

In summary, Donald Trump's language stands out for its particularly low grade-level readability, consistently ranking below his recent predecessors like Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and George W. Bush, who generally operate within a more moderate range of linguistic complexity for public discourse.7

That's at least two or three grade levels above most other "i hait donld turmp cuz he stoopid" Einsteins here on AseanNow whose primary purpose in life is to rage on about how badly they detest Donald J. Trump.  But post after post after post after post after post just goes to show that Trump has taken up residence in your mind and you allow him to live in your head rent free.

I don't particularly like Trump and the last 146 days since his inauguration has given me even more reason to dislike him.  He constantly lies, his words mean nothing, he can't be trusted, he engages in hyperbole, and is a narcissistic megalomaniac and an otherwise f'd-up human being - I get that.  But the constant, never-ending disparagement and derogatory taunting and explicit trolling that is then rolled up into post after post after post after post after post by the same people is just freaking infantile.  It accomplishes nothing other than to prove that Trump has infested your mind and that you're unable to exorcise him.  These posts are like a manic-compulsive Christian genuflecting and crossing themselves over and over again during their waking hours in order to chase the satanic-dictator and virus-king, Trump The Magnificent and Sublime - out of your head in a desperate act to dispel the Trump-Demon from inside your brain.  It's just pathetic. That level of compulsive behavior in not a sign of good mental health.

More Anti-Trump "BS!"

Leftists lie about EVERYTHING else except their hatred for Trump.

Let them hate.  We know who’s won the election and is residing in the big house on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Trump can’t be manipulated.

Like the leftists minions.

That's not the point. The point is she is, without a doubt, smarter than Trump and more qualified to represent the USA.

Hey Hitler made it to the top of Politics for awhile in Germany, that doesn't make it right does it?

If she was that smart she would be wearing a little badge that said "POTUS".

Someone insulting another's thought process by telling them they will keep "loosing." We don't usually comment on grammar or spelling, but you just bent over and said "take me" with that one.

And yet, the Dems and lefties still don't comprehend what he's saying.

This  language business can be deceptive  ... I used to think Clinton was a brilliant orator but it  turned out he was

a pussy chasing fool !

Trump is indeed simple minded, but he isn't inarticulate. Take away the adverb "very," however, and I don't think he can make it through more than one or two sentences. Harris, meanwhile, is inarticulate and floods her speeches with filler, repetitive phrases, and catchwords. Both are low grade intelligences.

Just for fun, I asked Grok to randomly select one of Trump's recent statements on Iran and rephrase it like a five year old is talking. Here it is. TBH, the five year old rephrasing sounds almost indistinguishable from most Trump commentary.

One of Trump's latest remarks on Iran from June 14, 2025, was: “There has already been great death and destruction, but there is still time to make this slaughter, with the next already planned attacks being even more brutal, come to an end. Iran must make a deal, before there is nothing left.”

Rephrased like a five-year-old is saying it: "There's been lots of fighting and bad stuff, but we can stop it if you say yes to a deal, Iran. If you don’t, more fighting’s coming, and it’ll be really, really bad!"

don't forget an analysis of the epic word salads of the west coast cackle queen, she's got to be up there with the dumbest of them, more than likely prompting laughter from all. Trumps low vacab ratings seem not to affect his brilliant successes to date and the scorching pace he's achieving it. Perhaps nobody really cares about Trumps vacab except the envious losers, democrats, but be sure to compile a list of Trumps activities underlying his immense successes to date.iin closing, remember Biden struggling to read from a teleprompter, from his cue cards and why was he allowed NOT TO SPEAK on so many occasions, was it because his brains were fried like an egg, stuck to the frying pan? Absolutely that was the case. so you should all go clean your underwear from any accidents you incurred reading Trumps vocab assessment, and then see about getting your head examined for signs of electrical activity.

I know it’s hard for you MAGA people to grasp but the study referred to elected presidents. Your deflection (Kamala) will be duly noted by the ICE thugs terrorising US.
