Let's wait and see just who was the man dressed up impersonating a police officer who shot them, and then later exchanged fire with actual police who arrived at the scene.

 

"Officers responded at about 2 a.m. to the shooting at the Hoffman residence in Champlin, Evans said. About an hour-and-a-half later in nearby Brooklyn Park, officers received a call about the shooting at the Hortman residence, Evans said.

 

Police arrived at the Hortman home to find a gunman wearing a vest and badge coming out of the house, and a vehicle with emergency lights flashing in the driveway, according to Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley. “If they were in this room, you would assume that they are a police officer,” he said of the individual police encountered."  [emphasis added]
