The test is designed to produce a Gaussian distribution with a standard deviation of 15. The mean is defined as IQ 100. She was very smug about it and said no one could give her a good answer. It's hard to get inside her head but the idea seems to be that 4 and 5 are 1 unit apart but when added together the difference becomes 2. Where did the extra 1 come from? My best guess is that she doesn't understand that the numbers represent single units so the addition expands to be 4+4=1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1 1

The average Thai is 89 or 112 or something between. You have only to take the right chart to look yourself better. So US average could be lower than Thai if you mix up the charts. But who knows?
