Takes only 30 or 40 minutes,  then they give up, and tell you to come back another day.

The real big deal is if you need the facial registration for whatever transaction and it is not working. But from my experience,  digital services always work flawlessly in Thailand, so no worries.

Update: Just been to my local Kasikorn branch (60 Km round trip) armed with my passport and bank book.

There was no queue in the bank so I was attended to immediately. It took around 30 minutes which I was happy with, especially since it looked like the customer service rep had never gone through the process with a foreigner. I was also issued with a new bank book, same as others have stated on this thread.

All quite painless really.

Yes, I still have the notification.  Maybe that will change on/after July 2.

There is an update for the KPlus app which I installed and when you select "Change Transaction Limits" there is an extra option to set the limit for transactions which require a face scan.

It is set at 50000 baht, but you have the option to set it lower than that if you require more control.

I cant do a screenshot to show the change due to restrictions in the app and I cant be arsed to take a screenshot using alternative methods.

This has been a PITA for over a year with most all banks, especially for people who are required to wear glasses to read the messages on their phone screen.

I just closed accounts with 1 bank last week, because i was unable to complete facial recognition for a transfer of funds.

Soon my accounts with SCB will also be closed, since they have the same requirement, but at the same time have announced they can't even set it up for foreigners, so every transaction over 50K requires a visit to the branch

Expand

You can still do multiple 50k transfers scb told me.

So they registered your (caucasion?) face? Did they check your visa status at all?

Yes, they registered my UK white (well slightly tanned) face. They requested my passport but as far as I could see, they only referenced the passport ID page but did not check my permission to stay.

Could not agree with you more! What I find particularly mystifying, though, is that it only seems to be Thai banks who are determined to ram lousy apps down the throats of their account holders through withdrawing their online banking services. For instance, no bank back in my home country (UK) has followed - or is planning to follow - suit, as far as I can tell.

if you read what I wrote I never said you get any support with the lower limit. if you raise the limit your just exposing yourself to more loss without guaranteed support. People ignorant of the major scams that are posted weekly in every media outlet often fall victim generally as a result of greed.

What on Earth are they doing 30 minutes long? Even someone unfamiliar with the process should be able to snap a picture and print a new passbook in less than 10 minutes. Did they make you sign (m)any forms?

Can't say I'm looking forward to that visit!

I did sign quite a few forms and had to provide information that I have already provided about tax residency and my Thai TIN. It took about 4 attempts for the CS rep to take the required photos of me. I had to fill in forms on the CS rep's tablet and considering that the CS rep doesn't speak English and my Thai is not good enough to hold a conversation, I think 30 minutes is quite reasonable.

Driving me INSANE. I made the mistake of changing all my limits to 1 k for security purposes then thought better of it BUT when I went back to change them to 20k the app required a "selfie" using the built in camera app. After several attempts and hours of wasted time I rang my bank and asked them for help but USELESS. I then went through the same agony with my other bank. No Luck. Ive come to the conclusion it's a two man operation. That's how it worked for me weeks ago.

After a debate about this issue I rang the bank ( Krungsri) and asked them. To Summarise. Web based banking is finishing soon. THE APP IS CONTINUING.  I then put all this information on this forum, about two weeks ago.

I was tempted to do the same but both of my banks now require some form of facial recognition.  I have found the best solution is to do it in the bank. There it only takes two minutes.

They give you a new book because the new facial recognition includes an online signature scan? You probably had to sign your name a number of times digitally on an electronic screen pad for the facial update, which is tied to your photo, passport and new book number? The old system you signed the actual paper book which the signature was only seen under UV light if I am not mistaken?

Signed a few digital papers on an iPad, but the passbook account number is the same as the old (bank account number )  some other numbers changed tho, I don't know what they mean, some numbers that are above and below your passbook. One thing can be noticed is only the date of issue of passbook which is a new one compared to old. But you might be right regarding the signature under UV light.

this has been known for quite some time. and not the only bank. its both part of the attempt to contain scammers just like the addition of facial recognition and also shut down none beneficial services. Most people use cell phones now, it's 2025. Show where it says its being discontinued due to turning 70 years old

That's regarding the application to set up the app:

  Quote

The User can apply for Krungsri Online/krungsri application through the channels specified by the
Bank, such as the Bank's website, Krungsri ATM, the Bank’s branches, or the Bank’s application
installed on mobile phone or tablet that can be connected to the Bank's network. The User must fill
out all required information completely and accurately. The basic qualification of the User is to be of
age 12 or over but not exceeding 70 years. The registration will be valid when the User receives a
confirmation message via E-mail or mobile phone number registered with the Bank.

Expand

There's nothing in the T&Cs about terminating the app for an existing user passing the age of 70.

Ok, here are my instructions:

Use one of your fingers,  any one will do. If you have no fingers,  or if you are the age of Bill Gates and use a PC, a mouse will do.

Now move finger or mouse over the link I provided.

Next, click the link.

If I click the link, it will open in the middle of the thread, on page 5,  where people discuss the age limit for the Krungsri app. I don't know what will happen if you click the link, ymmv.

Read it (using your eyes, not your fingers).

Last not least,  use your brain to proces the read information.

Hope this helps.

That's an interesting way to look at it, and you may very well be right - I hope you are right.

As I am not a customer of Krungsri, I am not delving into this more.

Section 1.2, where the 70 year age restriction is mentioned, concerns the application to use the banking app. There is nothing in the T&Cs about rescinding access to the banking app when a user passes the age of 70. I'm still in my sixties but I do know septuagenarians still successfully accessing the Krungsri banking app, which would tend to confirm my "way of looking at it".
