A 12-year-old boy lost his life after being struck and run over by an lorry and trailer, while crossing a road on his bicycle in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province. His friend, who was riding pillion, escaped serious injury but was left in a state of shock.

Police from Nakhon Luang Station, led by Pol. Sub-Lt. Rakchat Prasoppol, responded to the scene of the fatal collision on the Bang Rakam–Bo Phong Road in Moo 4, Bang Rakam subdistrict, following reports of a cyclist being fatally hit by a lorry.

At the scene, officers found a blue bicycle crushed under the rear wheels of a parked lorry. The main vehicle bore registration from Ayutthaya. Lying near the rear right wheel was the lifeless body of the young cyclist. His companion, also aged 12, was unharmed but visibly distressed.

Initial investigations revealed that the two boys had been cycling from their nearby housing estate to a convenience store located across the road. Believing it was safe to cross while vehicles were stopped at a red light, they attempted to ride across the two-lane road. A lorry moved forward as its light turned green, striking the bicycle. The rider was killed instantly after being dragged under the rear wheels.

The lorry driver stated he had the green light and was proceeding lawfully when the boys suddenly emerged from a side road. He said he tried to swerve, nearly crashing into a nearby shop in the process, but was unable to avoid the collision.

Police have taken the driver in for further questioning and are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras to determine the precise cause of the incident. The body of the young victim has been sent for examination, and arrangements are being made to return him to his family for funeral rites.
