Police in Bangkok have arrested a man accused of fatally stabbing another man during a heated altercation stemming from an unpaid debt.

The incident occurred in the Pimarn Village community, located in Soi Rama II 69, Samae Dam subdistrict, Bang Khun Thian district. Officers from Tha Kham Police Station were alerted to the scene shortly after the stabbing took place.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim, identified as Mr. Sitthichai, aged 42, suffering from a stab wound beneath his left ribcage. He was rushed to PMG Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Witnesses told police that the suspect, Mr. Manit, aged 52, fled the scene on a motorcycle, heading toward Sakae Ngam Road and then onto the expressway frontage road. Officers quickly issued an alert and coordinated efforts to intercept the suspect.

At approximately 03:20 on 22 June, investigators located Mr. Manit waiting near a bus stop in front of Big C shopping centre on Rama II Road. Officers approached and identified themselves before taking him into custody.

During questioning, Mr. Manit admitted to stabbing Mr. Sitthichai. He told police that the victim’s girlfriend had previously borrowed 3,000 baht from him. When he went to collect the money, Mr. Sitthichai became angry and punched him in the face. Mr. Manit then retrieved a knife from the storage compartment of his motorcycle and stabbed the victim once before fleeing.

He later disposed of the weapon in a canal near Phaya Ratchamontri pumping station before wandering the streets and stopping at the Big C shopping centre, where he was ultimately apprehended.

Mr. Manit has been charged with homicide and was handed over to investigators at Tha Kham Police Station for legal proceedings.
