Accident Motorcyclist Killed After Crashing at Bend Beneath ‘Reduce Speed’ Sign

A crash occurred in the early hours of the morning when a man lost control of his motorcycle on a dark, winding stretch of road in Rayong province, crashing to his death beneath a sign that ironically warned drivers to “Reduce Speed.”

 

At approximately 03:30 on 25 June, officers from Klaeng Police Station were called to the scene on Sukhumvit Road, near the Khongkha curve in Huai Yang subdistrict, Klaeng district. Upon arrival, they discovered the body of a middle-aged man lying beneath the base of the warning sign. He had sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

Roughly ten metres from the body, his blue motorcycle was found mangled in a roadside drainage ditch. Authorities used a tow truck to retrieve the wreckage for further examination.

 

Mr Pichet Kongprasan, an officer with the Huai Yang Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, confirmed that he had received a report of the crash “When I arrived, the man was already lying dead beneath the speed reduction sign,” he said.

 

Police are currently working to identify the deceased and determine whether he was the registered owner of the motorcycle. An investigation is ongoing, with officers gathering evidence and witness statements.

 

The stretch of road where the incident occurred is notorious among locals for frequent crashes. It is poorly lit and has been the site of numerous serious and fatal incidents in the past.

 

Authorities have pledged to continue their investigation and are also expected to review road safety measures in the area.

I guess they put the sign too close to where the dangers of crashing was. Maybe moving the sign up the road some would be better.

What is the purpose of signs in Thailand??? Nobody reads or follow them.. There several roundabouts near me with the sign to let the traffic on the roundabout to go first, but really nobody stops and do it..... Always question myself, can't they read or don't they know what a roundabout is?? Any way there are too less signs on the roads, and often too close to the dangers... This case too.. many crashes here, so people don't learn

I was gonna say the same thing.  What's the point of traffic  signs or laws for tgat matter?  Most don't stop for zebra crossings, don't give or yield to ambulances, and ride bikes on sidewalks.  I guess the thinking is, that's ok... not everyone does bad.

I think it has to do with a lack of cognitive skills, thus the lower average IQ (88) found in Thailand. They can focus on where they want to go, but things like road rules, laws, signs, safe driving, etc are just noise their brains can't handle at the same time. In fact, they don't seem to be able to handle anything more than a few feet in front their faces/noses, evidenced by the many who seem to run into stationary objects (Large Trucks parked, Vehicles stopped at Red Lights, etc.), and the lack of mirrors on many motorcycles. Like they say, you can't fix stupid.
