A road crash claimed the life of a 31-year-old man in the early hours of the morning of 27 June, after he lost control of his pickup truck in wet conditions, crashed into a light pole and overturned on a major road in Chanthaburi province.

At approximately 00:30, Pol. Lt. Thanachet Promtha, investigator with Mueang Chanthaburi Police Station, received a report from the Sawang Katanyu Chanthaburi Rescue Association of a fatal road crash involving a single vehicle that had veered into the central reservation and struck a lighting pole on Sukhumvit Road, outbound from Chanthaburi city. Physicians from Phra Pokklao Hospital and rescue volunteers were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, responders discovered a heavily damaged Nissan Navara four-door pickup truck, registered in Bangkok. The vehicle had smashed into a roadside light pole, uprooting it entirely, before overturning and becoming lodged against the guardrail on the opposite side of the road. The light pole’s base was completely broken, with exposed wires and copper cables dangerously close to the crumpled remains of the truck. Rescue workers initially hesitated to approach the vehicle due to fears of residual electrical current.

The driver, identified as Mr. Phisit aged 31, was found deceased in tall grass within the central reservation, having been ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Police examination of the scene revealed tyre marks leading from a curve in the road on the outbound carriageway, indicating that the driver had lost control of the vehicle, which then skidded off the road, overturned multiple times and ultimately collided with the pole and guardrail. The surrounding vegetation in the central reservation was flattened along the vehicle’s path of destruction.

Initial investigations suggest that the crash was likely caused by speed on the slippery road conditions following recent rainfall. The area where the crash occurred is known for being accident-prone, particularly during wet weather and features a sharp bend. Police are continuing to investigate and will review dashcam footage and CCTV from the area to determine the precise cause of the incident.

Gawd, can't recognise the make of that car.

I reckon he was going a bit too fast.

Idiot.

Oh well he won't do that again.
