A traffic police officer is being hailed a hero and an unexpected source of lottery inspiration, after calmly capturing a king cobra found beneath the front of a parked lorry in Khao Kho district, Phetchabun province.

The dramatic snake encounter occurred when a lorry driver, who had been resting overnight near the Khao Kho district office, began cleaning his vehicle. While wiping the front section of the truck, he noticed a shiny, moving object resembling a snake and immediately sought help from nearby officers.

Sergeant Major Thanatchanan Inkhuntip, better known locally as “Sergeant Aod” , was on duty directing traffic outside Romklao Khao Kho School when the driver approached him for help. Upon reviewing the footage on the man’s phone, the officer identified the intruder as a king cobra.

Without hesitation, Sgt. Aod rushed back to his residence to collect makeshift tools including a PVC pipe, a saw, zip ties and a black plastic bag. He swiftly returned to the scene and used the improvised equipment to fashion a snake-catching pole.

Within a few minutes of careful manoeuvring, Sgt. Aod successfully extracted the cobra, which measured approximately 1.3 metres in length. The snake was later released safely back into the wild.

In an interview, Sgt. Aod revealed that this was not his first time dealing with snakes, as Khao Kho district frequently sees such incidents. “I’ve had experience catching snakes before,” he said modestly. “I adapted whatever tools I could find to help. It’s my duty to assist the public whenever they need it.”

The incident was shared widely on the official Khao Kho Police Station Facebook page, where a video of the rescue earned Sgt. Aod widespread praise from the community and his superiors.

However, the story didn’t end there. Thai lottery enthusiasts quickly zeroed in on the lorry’s licence plate number, 82-9124, hoping it might bring them luck in upcoming draws, a common practice in Thailand where unusual or spiritual events are often seen as omens.
