Everyone will be voting against the grifter in chief., just like 2018.

Third parties in US politics almost always act as spoilers.  A conservative 3rd party will help the Democrats, a liberal 3rd party will help the Republicans.  Right now the only one talking about a 3rd party is Musk, who will probably be more conservative than liberal.

 

Musk's party will probably appeal to "tech bros" who are not classic conservatives on all issues.  Right now the only liberal 3rd party is the Greens, who don't have much of a voter base in the US.

The hard core MAGA could be around 35% of electorate. Your 20% could amount to 10% of the electorate, but the 3rd party can also be expected to draw from the Dems as well. People are also fed up with the Dems. The point is that the winner does not need over 50% in a 3-party race.
