In a dramatic turn of events at a luxury housing estate in Pattaya, a late-night confrontation between two Burmese builders escalated into a violent machete attack, leaving one man seriously injured.

The incident occurred just before midnight on July 1 at a posh property undergoing renovation on Thung Klom-Tan Man Road in Nong Prue. Local rescue teams and police, led by Lieutenant Colonel Surachai Chuaykoon, responded swiftly to the chaotic scene.

Upon arrival, they found 39-year-old Kyaw Tar Sein staggering and covered in blood, a severe 10-centimetre wound gaping open on his head. Despite a language barrier, Kyaw Tar Sein pointed urgently towards a nearby construction site, uttering the Burmese term "Ya Khai," believed to refer to his attacker, while indicating another worker's hut.

Witnesses at a minimart nearby reported that the injured man had rushed in, clutching his bleeding head and begging for assistance. CCTV footage showed several workers trying to drag him back to the site, before a store employee intervened and called the police.

Following a trail of blood, officers discovered the suspect, 51-year-old Kyaw, resting on a mattress in a dormitory. He had cuts under his left armpit and facial bruises, while a blood-stained machete was located nearby.

The two men had reportedly been drinking inexpensive white liquor earlier, and their accounts of the altercation differed significantly. Kyaw asserted that the dispute began over his refusal to hand over 2,300 Thai Baht (approximately 66 USD), claiming he had been financially supporting Kyaw Tar Sein for weeks. However, Kyaw Tar Sein argued he was attacked without provocation.

Their supervisor, identified only as New, explained that the men, employed at the site for about a month, often clashed over finances while intoxicated. "We don't want to intervene," New remarked, urging the police to take legal action to prevent further violence.

While Kyaw was detained for further questioning at Nong Prue Police Station, Kyaw Tar Sein received urgent medical care. The Pattaya News confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, highlighting the dangers of personal disputes spiralling out of control.

The incident underscores the importance of managing workplace tensions and the potential consequences of letting disputes escalate unchecked.
