Moo Deng, the world’s tiniest celebrity, is set to celebrate her first birthday in style at Khao Kheow Open Zoo. Born last year, the pygmy hippo quickly became an internet sensation, capturing hearts globally with her charming antics. To mark this special occasion, the zoo has launched an interactive programme called “Cook for Moo Deng,” inviting enthusiasts to get hands-on with her lunchtime preparations.

 

From 3rd to 31st July, the zoo offers just two lucky families each day the chance to get up close with Moo Deng. Starting at 8.30 am, participants will join zookeepers to discover the ins and outs of animal nutrition. They’ll also have the unique opportunity to hand-feed the hippo princess herself, who has become quite the diva.

 

According to a zoo spokesperson, “Families will learn how to care for her properly, understanding the commitment needed to keep her healthy. And Moo Deng thrives on the attention.”

 

Moo Deng's rise to fame began when videos of her clumsy first steps and playful bath times went viral on TikTok, amassing millions of views worldwide. Her adorable heart-shaped snout and penchant for watermelon turned her into a global ambassador for wildlife conservation, with fans from as far as Japan and Germany sending gifts and letters.

 

“She’s our little superstar,” remarked one zookeeper. “Visitors are flying in from overseas just to see her. She’s bigger than most influencers.”

 

The zoo aims to leverage Moo Deng’s popularity to raise awareness about endangered species and secure funding for their ongoing care. Proceeds from the programme, after expenses, will support Khao Kheow’s Wildlife Sponsorship Program. At roughly 400 Thai Baht for a family booking, the experience is proving popular, with slots filling faster than you can say 'watermelon'.

 

Bookings are being handled through the Khao Kheow Open Zoo Promotions Facebook page, but families are advised to act quickly to secure this unforgettable experience.

 

One local mum perhaps summed it up best: “My daughter has been buzzing about Moo Deng for weeks. Meeting her was like meeting Beyoncé, but wetter.”

In a world captivated by influencers, Moo Deng is a refreshing reminder of nature’s allure and the simple joys of animal charm.
