Love these threads about why Thais are so fat by farangs who are fatter and come from countries with higher obesity rates than Thailand.

Are you not realizing Thailand is slowly catching up to that obesity level, and might just pass it someday as more Americans work out than Thais, are are more likely to burn more calories and understand proper nutrition than those living here? Give it time, just like the crime happening here, as lack of enforcement will pay them a harsh price here eventually.

Thais rarely exercise. They ride motorbikes everywhere. More sugar and breads everywhere.

They don't understand what's unhealthy, i ask them, they often think rice, when they've been slim for 1000 years on rice.   Obesity and 7 Eleven growth probably very similar on a graph

  • It's probably the ultra processed food that hijacks the brain at a very young age. It's really a worldwide problem where the cheapest food available is the worst for their health.   I was in

Excessive intake of: Fat and sugar.

Laziness: Their general hate of walk even for very short distance.

Taking so much  calories while spending too little of that.

Obesity Triangle.

Fat children are rapidly increasing each year.

I'm not sure any of them cover the tubs of lard, of toddler age, that you can see every day of the week in Lotus / Shopping Malls etc.

When I first came to Thailand I though most women were slim. Then I moved here and saw the reality, and since then, have seen more and more heavy children and adults here. Just yesterday when I was at a market with my girlfriend, there were many students there after school ended, and two in particular were at least 70 kilos each and short.

It's all the vaccines they get killing their gut biome.

Really sad seeing the young men developing breasts.

American guy living in Japan did a video about why Japanese are so thin.

One reason is even in their 7-11s, there is a good variety of fairly healthy foods.

Healthy food options are readily available everywhere.

I also eat mainly out of the 7-Elevens in Japan too when I'm there. It's the same like 7-Elevens in Thailand. Lots of healthy food options and much better than eating mainly rice dishes or deep fried stuff in Japan, which is mostly what's served in many of the Japanese restaurants there.

Rice every meal of every day is not a smart choice, as it can lead to diabetes in those prone, even though it isn't unhealthy by itself in normal quantities. The kids are getting that junk food at home long before they are able to buy it themselves.

Rice isn't the issue it's the other choices that are the real cause of obesity

Yes but then they don't need (or pay)  women to grab them.

The only cause is they don't care.

Too many carbs in any form are the reason people put on weight, with those from simple sugars being the worse. The body has to burn stored glycogen before it burns stored fat. Too much rice adds to those bad carbs they eat, along with using oil and pork, fried foods and sugar drinks.

That could be said about most all stores, as junk sells. The only stores that sell a majority or 100% healthy foods are the whole foods markets and other like stores. 7-11 has many healthy choices but the bad outweighs the good because they know their clients want it. 2 or 3 diet drinks compared to 50 loaded with sugar. The sellers and manufacturers know full well that people get addicted to sugar.

I wonder if there's even one person in the world who has self control and is overweight or obese.

Direct link between lack of self control and obesity.

People with a lack of self discipline do keto or carnivore or other fad diet

A keto diet takes a lot of discipline to keep up.

I.F. is the way to go but also demands discipline to do it.

When you see fat people over here they are always carrying bags of sugary stuff.

Being slim or being fat is a lifestyle, you chose what you want.

It's the combination of fat and carbs in junk food, but people always bang on about sugar

Oh Susan, taking photos of my food? What am I, a teenage influencer desperate for likes? And why would I post them anyway, so you can sit there drooling and having a cheeky little fap over my lunch? Get a grip, mate.

If they had discipline they wouldn't need to do keto

Lots of junk food contain both.

My Thai friends believe it was the introduction of Pizza Hut and MacDonalds that led to the growth of obesity. It may have also contributed to Thais growing taller as I don't remember quite as many tall Thais 36 years ago.

Sugars are the main reason people get fat. The body burns carbs first before stored body fat. People who eat too many carbs have a problem losing fat because of this. The Keto diet, which is okay short term, shows how much fat a person can eat and stay slim. Too much fat isn't good for health in the long term also.

70/30. But it's up to one to choose the right thing.

That's just two of the many reasons. If you look at all stores, including convenience stores, and see what they carry, the majority is food with high sugar and fat content, meaning fried snacks. parents give these to their children because they themselves don't understand what proper nutrition means, and likely don't follow it themselves.
