A retired highway police officer was killed on the morning of 10 July, when his motorbike was struck by a car on a bridge in Chonburi province. The victim’s wife and child arrived shortly after the incident and were seen collapsing in grief upon discovering his lifeless body.

The crash occurred at approximately 07:30 on the New Chonburi Bridge (Phase 1) in Mueang district. Police Lieutenant Kawin Juirod from Mueang Chonburi Police Station responded to the scene alongside rescue personnel from the Tri-Kunatham Foundation.

The victim, identified as 69-year-old Police Sub-Lieutenant Surasit, a retired highway patrol officer, was found lying face down at the roadside. He had suffered severe injuries, with blood visible from his mouth and nose, and abrasions across his body. His green Honda Wave motorcycle, bearing a red temporary licence plate, had been damaged at the rear.

Nearby, police discovered a grey Honda Civic sedan registered in Bangkok. The driver, a man in his early 30s identified only as “Mr Ek”, was unharmed but visibly shaken. A breathalyser test revealed no trace of alcohol in his system.

The driver said he had been travelling in a straight line when the motorcycle suddenly pulled out from the roadside in front of him. He claimed there was no time to brake and avoid the collision.

Rescue official Mr Thanakrit, 45, from the Tri-Kunatham Foundation, explained that medics had attempted to resuscitate the victim at the scene but were unsuccessful. “He had no pulse when we arrived,” he said. “We did everything we could, but it was too late.”

Moments later, the victim’s wife and child arrived at the scene, only to be overcome with emotion upon seeing his body. They said he had just left their home in Ban Suan and was heading to Bang Sai on a personal errand.

Police have launched a full investigation into the crash and will conduct a detailed interview with the driver. Officers also intend to review nearby CCTV footage to determine the exact sequence of events before proceeding with any legal action.
