A police station in Bang Bua Thong, Nonthaburi province, descended into chaos, when a mentally disturbed former security guard stormed the premises and threatened to detonate a bomb.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:00 on 11 July, at Bang Bua Thong Police Station. Mr. Prateep 60, a resident of Khao Kwang Thong subdistrict, Nong Chang district, Uthai Thani province, entered the station in a highly agitated state. Witnesses reported that he shouted incoherently, removed his clothing to reveal his body covered in tattoos and began making threats to blow up the station.

“I have a bomb, I’ll kill everyone in this police station!” he reportedly yelled, causing widespread panic among police officers and civilians who were present to conduct official business.

After storming out of the building, Mr. Prateep continued shouting outside the station before fleeing into the adjacent Laharn Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO) office. He washed his face and attempted to climb over the front fence of the SAO before police intervened.

Responding quickly, Deputy Inspector Pol. Lt. Chatchawan Thao Pha and a team of patrol officers surrounded the area and eventually subdued the suspect. He was handcuffed and transported to Bang Bua Thong Hospital for a preliminary psychiatric evaluation before being transferred to Srithanya Hospital in Nonthaburi for further treatment.

Pol. Lt. Chatchawan stated that the police had received prior complaints about Mr. Prateep from residents of Lumpini Village in Phimonrat subdistrict. He had reportedly been exhibiting erratic and aggressive behaviour for several days, frightening members of the community. On a previous occasion, officers had calmed him and instructed him to return home.

“Today his behaviour was worse than before. He may be under severe stress or lacking sleep. A drug test was conducted and came back negative,” said Lt. Chatchawan.

Authorities confirmed that no explosives were found in Mr. Prateep’s possession, and no injuries were reported. Nonetheless, the incident sparked serious concern about public safety and mental health support for vulnerable individuals.
