Good idea.....

They're ไม้พายไม้ไผ่ (mai paai mai phai)

A new แอกตะกร้าไม้ไผ่ is guaranteed to make her eyes sparkle again especially if you add a couple of these as well;

Just be careful not to spoil her, or she'll be asking for new Wellingtons next!

There's something special about terra-cotta vessels, don't you think?

Especially the unglazed variety.

In the 1950's a neighbour had a cooling-box made of white clay.

It had a concave top which had to be kept full of water.

The slight cooling effect, due to evaporation, chilled the contents enough to keep them fresh... in England!

Would that idea work in the tropics?

Glazed terra cotta is excellent for fermenting vegetables, and sauces.

Anybody tried making their own "Worcester sauce"?

Joking aside, these rattan and bamboo song-bird cages are exquisite items in themselves, the price tag (of 399 baht for the largest round ones) belies the craftsmanship and labour that goes into each one.

I keep a spare bird cage for the times when my cats capture a wild bird, and I manage to rescue the poor creatures.

I pop them in the cage, hanging in a tree, and leave the cage door open so they can fly away after they've recovered. Not all do, but worth the effort nonetheless.

Well done.

Ta I'm sure you do the same too.

I'm not usually quick enought to rescue "Baby Croccodiles" (Geckoes) before they are mangled.

I have more success with those toxic "Skinks", because my cats have learned by now: Fun to stalk, and catch, but make you sick if you swallow them!

There are Skinks in my garden with multiple scars from previous cat-encounters.
