Chiang Mai police have arrested a suspect linked to the kidnap and murder of a Chinese businessman, whose body was found in a forested area.

On 14th July, police were alerted to the discovery of a body wrapped in a black bag and plastic sheeting in a forest near Mae Rim. The victim is believed to be 24-year-old Zhuang Zhou Yang, who was reported missing after a ransom demand was made.

Yang had entered Thailand from the Kings Romans Special Economic Zone in Laos with a friend, travelling to Chiang Mai by taxi. He disappeared on 8th July, and soon after, his family was contacted with a demand for three million baht ransom, which they could not pay.

Police investigations led them to Yang’s friend, found at a Chiang Mai hotel. The friend claimed they were lured to a business meeting and later detained by a Chinese gang. He managed to secure his release after paying a ransom but discovered that Yang was killed for not paying.

The suspect, identified as Mr. Zhang, was arrested in Hang Dong, while Mr. Wang, another suspect, remains at large. The investigation continues as authorities seek to capture all involved in the crime.
