Report Transnational Crime Sting: Pattaya Raids Capture Chinese and Korean Fugitives

In a sweeping crackdown on transnational crime in Pattaya, Thai immigration police have arrested two foreign fugitives, revealing a web of international criminal activity. Commissioner Panumas Boonyalak led the operations, which resulted in separate dramatic takedowns this week.

 

The first arrest occurred in Huai Yai, Bang Lamung, when 39-year-old Chinese national Sun attempted a daring escape by climbing onto the roof of his rented property. Despite his efforts, officers apprehended him, uncovering charges related to drug offences and the illegal sale of e-cigarettes. Additionally, Sun was found to have overstayed his visa by more than 15 days. Authorities have initiated deportation proceedings against him.

 

Meanwhile, a more significant arrest unfolded along Sukhumvit Pattaya Soi 71. South Korean national Sung, wanted under an Interpol red notice, was found hiding in a cramped room. The 60-year-old is accused of orchestrating a crystal meth smuggling operation into Korea, which involved concealing 180 grammes of the drug in food containers destined for Incheon Airport. The meth, if successfully shipped, could have fetched over 18 million won (approximately 470,000 baht).

 

Sung had been living incognito in Thailand for over two years, evading capture until now. Both fugitives will face Thai legal proceedings, while authorities are also coordinating international extraditions and deeper investigations into their criminal networks.

 

This operation underscores Thailand’s commitment to tackling international crime. By apprehending such high-profile fugitives, Thai authorities are not only upholding local law but also supporting global efforts to dismantle transnational crime syndicates.

 

The arrested individuals now await further legal action, as both local and international law enforcement agencies work together to untangle the complex web of criminal activities that span continents.
