In a striking incident in Bangkok, a 35-year-old delivery rider was apprehended on July 21 on Lat Phrao Road, carrying ecstasy pills embossed with former US President Donald Trump's likeness. The arrest unfolded during a routine traffic and crime suppression operation, spearheaded by Police Colonel Prontwee Somwong and his team from Chok Chai traffic police.

The suspect, identified as Ekarin, also known as Diao, was stopped after he suspiciously tried to evade a police checkpoint. Upon searching Ekarin’s belongings, officers discovered 59 ecstasy tablets, leading to his immediate arrest.

Once detained, Ekarin was taken to Chok Chai Police Station for further questioning. An initial urine test revealed the presence of illegal substances, subsequently confirmed to be methamphetamine through additional medical testing.

During the interrogation, Ekarin confessed to his role as a delivery rider and claimed that the drugs were intended for his personal use. Consequently, he now faces charges for possessing a Category 1 narcotic, specifically methamphetamine, without authorisation. He is also charged with operating a motorcycle under the influence of methamphetamine and illegal consumption of methamphetamine.

The police are continuing their investigation and have transferred Ekarin and the confiscated evidence to Chok Chai Police Station's investigative officers for further legal proceedings. The authorities are likely to focus on uncovering the source of these uniquely marked pills and any larger network they might implicate.

Possession of a Category 1 narcotic in Thailand carries severe penalties, and authorities are determined to crack down on drug-related crimes. The unusual design of the pills has sparked interest and concern alike, potentially pointing to an emerging trend in narcotic trafficking and usage patterns.

Authorities estimate the local market value of the confiscated ecstasy at significant figures in Thai Baht, highlighting the severity of such offences.

As this case unfolds, it serves as a sobering reminder of the relentless efforts by police to combat the ongoing drug issues within the region. The community remains watchful as further details and potential links to broader criminal rings come to light.
