A Hua Hin woman, posing as a charity organiser, has been arrested for allegedly conning donors out of 2.7 million baht intended for underprivileged children and monks. Instead, she reportedly funded her lavish lifestyle.

Kesarin, 52, was apprehended yesterday in Hua Hin’s Nong Kae after a Criminal Court warrant was issued on 16 July. The arrest followed an investigation by Police Major General Witaya Sriprasertphap and the Crime Suppression Division.

The suspect allegedly masterminded a bogus fundraising event in March last year. Held at a luxury resort in Kanchanaburi, the event attracted senior government figures and business elites, all eager to contribute to what they believed were noble causes.

The glitzy auction featured local souvenirs and original works by well-known artists. Attendees, moved by the idea of supporting a school for underprivileged children and a hospital for monks, bid generously, with some items fetching hundreds of thousands of baht.

However, the promised goodwill turned out to be a ruse. Officials say none of the funds reached charitable destinations; instead, they were funnelled into Kesarin’s personal luxuries, starkly contradicting the campaign’s humble message.

Outraged donors alerted the Economic Crime Suppression Division, triggering a comprehensive investigation. Police discovered that claims of charity work were entirely fictitious. Despite confronting Kesarin with evidence, she denies the allegations.

“The investigation revealed that none of the funds were used for the stated charitable purposes,” a police spokesperson said. “We believe this was a deliberate act of fraud.”

Further investigations are underway to uncover any accomplices involved in this sham auction. Police urge victims to provide evidence to bolster the case as legal proceedings progress.

While Kesarin maintains her innocence, authorities remain determined to uncover the truth and ensure justice for the deceived donors.

Seems to have taken a page right out of the BLM's handbook in the USA.
