Seriously, Putin is a narcissistic megalomaniac that just wants to restore the Russian Empire to what is was during CCCP reign.

It's up to individual countries to apply for a NATO membership. It's not forced in any way. And all the NATO members have to agree. I can understand why Poland and the Baltic Republics wanted to join. They have seen enough of Russian aggression over the years prior.
