Migrant Hotel Horror: TVs Thrown, Fires, 90 Crimes—Locals Say Barbican's Now a War Zone!

Migrants outside The Thistle Central Hotel in Islington where many residents have been charged with criminal offences

London Resident's Car Smashed by TV Thrown from Migrant Hotel Window, Highlighting Growing Concerns

Ufuoma Odoh was startled awake by police only to discover that his parked Volvo XC40 had been damaged—its rear window shattered by a television thrown from a nearby hotel. The hotel, located near his London residence, is currently being used to house asylum seekers.

Initially, officers found no evidence of a missing television during their search of the first two floors. However, the hotel manager later identified a missing unit on the fourth floor and alerted authorities. A suspect was arrested but later released without charges due to a lack of eyewitnesses, despite the manager’s statement implicating the individual. When Mr Odoh contacted the Home Office, he was advised to handle the matter through his insurance. Choosing not to raise his premiums, he instead paid £750 out-of-pocket for repairs.

Mr Odoh’s experience reflects broader concerns about the use of hotels to accommodate asylum seekers. A recent investigation by The Mail on Sunday revealed that in just 70 hotels—roughly a third of those in use—312 residents have been charged with 708 offences. Particularly alarming is the Thistle City Barbican Hotel, where 41 individuals were charged with more than 90 crimes in the past year. Offences include rape, sexual assault, robbery, arson, and violent attacks, with most suspects being men in their 20s and 30s.

Many cases ended in suspended or community sentences, while some offenders failed to appear in court. Financial penalties were frequently waived due to the defendants’ reported lack of income, even as concerns mount about illegal work being carried out. Photos recently surfaced showing migrants, who are not authorised to work, delivering food for platforms such as Deliveroo and Uber Eats.

Locals and business owners report that daily life in the area has significantly deteriorated. Bledar Qirjo, who runs a nearby restaurant, says customers now avoid the area at night due to disruptive behaviour outside the hotel. Residents have described frequent police visits, harassment, and vandalism—including burning items thrown from windows.

Incidents like these are fueling community unrest. In Epping, Essex, protests erupted after an asylum seeker was charged with sexually assaulting a schoolgirl. Demonstrations soon spread to Canary Wharf, spurred by false claims that migrants from Epping had been relocated there.

With around 32,000 asylum seekers currently housed in UK hotels—at an annual cost of £3 billion—the debate over the system’s sustainability and social impact continues to intensify.

No photo's of the alleged TV in the back seat i suppose.

Mr Odoh, who is apparently a Council Worker, had a TV go through his car over a month ago.

You would need to do a back search.

It is being reported in the OP, as part of a litany of crimes and damages, caused by the residents of the Barbican hotel, of which 90 criminal charges have been slapped on 40 of the salt of the earth residents.

Council worker Ufuoma Odoh, 49, said his Volvo XC40 was damaged last month when a television was flung out of a fourth-floor window and smashed the parked car's back window.

That's the kind of criminals density I'd expect at a Hotel hosting a joint Tory and Reform Party conference.
