Israel to open Gaza humanitarian corridors as aid drops begin

Featured Replies

Israel has said it is prepared to open humanitarian corridors to allow UN convoys into Gaza, following weeks of international pressure and a growing hunger crisis.

In a statement on Saturday, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said it had allowed air drops of humanitarian aid to resume, the first of which consisted of seven pallets of flour, sugar and canned food provided by international organisations.

The announcement came amid calls for Israel to let more aid into Gaza and amid warnings of mass starvation following months of limited supply to the territory's two million people

The Israeli military said Sunday it would begin a “tactical pause” in fighting in three areas of Gaza as part of steps to address a worsening humanitarian situation.

The military said it would halt activity in Muwasi, Deir al-Balah and Gaza City from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time every day until further notice, beginning Sunday. The military said it was not operating in those areas, but there has been fighting and strikes in each in recent weeks.

In a statement, the military said it would also designate secure routes that would be to help aid agencies deliver food and other supplies to people across Gaza.

Geneva: The United Nations said it would try to reach as many starving people as possible in Gaza after Israel announced it would establish secure land routes for humanitarian convoys.

The UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) said it had enough food in, or on its way to, the region to feed the 2.1 million people in the Gaza Strip for almost three months.

UN emergency relief coordinator Tom Fletcher said on X he welcomed the announcement of “humanitarian pauses”.

“In contact with our teams on the ground who will do all we can to reach as many starving people as we can in this window,” he said.

Why are "aid drops" by plane needed?  Just allow the trucks lined up at the Gaza border in.

"Aid drops" are propaganda.  They'll allow systemic starvation to continue by keeping out the land-base aid trucks while trickling in a small amount of "aid" by air so that war criminals can say, "We're letting food it, see?"  All the while freezing land-based aid convoys in place.  The small amount reaching 2 million Gazans isn't enough to feed but a small section of the population for a day or so.

You said it, propaganda, look we sent in food, and by the way we killed another 100 today.
