Just hours before the ceasefire deadline, the Royal Thai Air Force deployed two F-16 fighter jets late on the night of 28 July, to carry out precision bombing missions near the embattled Ta Kwai Temple, targeting Cambodian supply lines and artillery emplacements.

Military sources confirmed that the strike aimed to sever key logistical routes and neutralise heavy weaponry which have been providing support to Cambodian forces operating in the area. The mission was declared a success, with both aircraft returning safely to base.

The aerial offensive came after a day of intense ground clashes at what has been dubbed the “Ta Kwai battlefield,” as Thai special forces confronted elite Cambodian troops from the Bodyguard Headquarters (BHQ) unit. Cambodian reinforcements were reportedly attempting to consolidate control over the strategic zone before the midnight ceasefire deadline.

Security officials said the fiercest fighting occurred in a designated “red zone” around the temple, a site symbolically and militarily significant.

The situation remains tense, but the front line has gone quiet with the ceasefire, agreed upon to taking effect from midnight.

It shows the aggression of Thailand, while they agreed to a ceasefire, they must damage things first as long as it is possible... I am always wondering why Thailand and Thai people can blow up small things in big problems and than have to solve and repair the damages...

A dripping tap is not repaired until that tap caused so much damage that the whole bathroom must be repaired...and than starting to complain that it cost so much money... If the tap was repaired when it dripped no problems would have happened.. This is a similar case.. a few hours before ceasefire attack, as Cambodia , who is already weaker is not able to  and have no intention to respond...

But apparently not lasting very long.

So much for the hyped handshakes.

I don't know the rights and wrongs of this conflict, but bombing just hours before an agreed ceasefire is nothing if not duplicitous.

The Thais have had e of the stupid games the Cambodian army likes to play. A good heavy hand which resulted in a Cambodian defeat was definitely called for , why if they are the strongest co, not show it to prevent further harm!  The stupid Cambodians starred it , even planned it because they told all schools to close on the first day of attack , when they Willy Billy lobed artillery fire intro Thailand, hitting a 711 and killing civilians!  There I fixed it for you!

Oh poor Thailand, never done anything wrong... always others who are the culprits....

Not quite sure if you mean that the USA and UK are not democracies.

And then I guess it comes down to a definition of Democracy.

Your `dripping` old news as usual for your ilk Ikke!

Agree with you.  War needs one side to lose and lose enough to keep them from coming back.

Would the cowards behind a keyboard who downvoted my post kindly tell me why they disagree?

Bad things happen when army generals have more power than the government

But still, the situation was much better when Thailand was governed by the dictatorial general Prayut Chan-O-Cha from 2014 to 2023.

You wrote that “bombing just hours before an agreed ceasefire is nothing if not duplicitous” (I just gave the comment a “thumbs-up,” if that helps). I think you’re quite right, but, as at least one other person has commented, the Thais are not the first to engage in such tactics. A few hours before the November 11, 1918, armistice for World War I, the Germans launched some attacks, which were futile and stupid and killed a lot of people (one of these attacks is reenacted at the end of the 2022 remake of the film “All Quiet on the Western Front”). And I’m sure there are tons of other examples. Not that that makes the Thai actions any less questionable, but now apparently the Cambodians have broken the ceasefire, so there’s that, too.

As for the “cowards behind a keyboard,” I often wonder why people on this forum respond as they do, either verbally or anonymously with an emoticon. All I can think of is the caption to an often quoted New Yorker cartoon: “On the Internet, nobody knows you’re a dog.”

Maybe it's not the case but...It has already been proven that the government's decisions do not go hand in hand with those of the army.🤔

Inonsistent,   opaque, incomplete.

Very third worldly thing.

After all, it  isn't the war in Europe...

inconsistent, opaque, incomplete

I did not downvote vote but, from what I’ve read Thailand bombed the installations/warfare  the Cambodian side had set up. Cambodia did use a lot of rockets etc into Thai villages. And the landmines, I thought they were banned. ?

Were the installations being used, and was the bombing in response to attacks by the Cambodians shortly before?

There is a treaty banning the use of landmines. The USA, Russia, China, India and Pakistan have not joined it, so it is fairly meaningless.

IIRC Churchill said the truth in warfare should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies.

Kudos in that you are at least willing to discuss your reservations.

Thank you.

The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor without a declaration of war. That was duplicitous too.

They voted Trump in, then out, Biden in then out and Trump back in. Pray tell, what’s your understanding of a democracy if not that. The only laugh is your risible understanding of what constitutes a democracy. Let’s have your examples…

I believe the leaders of Cambodia aren’t to bright. Thailands is at least 3 times more stronger if not more.

If it's so far from democracy what is it then? An autocratic state? Nup. A dictatorship? Nup. A socialist state? Nup. An absolute monarchy? Nup. A fascist state? Nup. A communist state? Nup. What type of state holds elections (meant to be free and fair), has privately owned industry, has freedom of the press, freedom of movement, freedom of religion, freedom of assembly etc.? If you answer democracy you would be correct. Now tell us that the US doesn't have this.
