Russian President Vladimir Putin remains steadfast in the ongoing Ukraine conflict, despite facing new pressures from US President Donald Trump's ultimatum. Putin emphasised an "advance on the entire front line" and showed little sign of changing course, even with sanctions looming large. The stalwart leader dismissed Trump's timeline for a ceasefire, underscoring a reluctance to cease hostilities.

Speaking from the Valaam Monastery, Putin stated that any disappointments were due to "inflated expectations," which referenced Trump's dissatisfaction. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky remains open to negotiations and has offered to meet with Putin "any time." Meanwhile, recent Russian raids have escalated tensions, with 31 casualties in a recent Kyiv assault, intensifying global calls for a peaceful resolution.

Despite the minimal progress yielded by rounds of talks in Istanbul, the prisoner swaps represented a rare point of cooperation between the warring nations. In response to Putin’s remarks, Zelensky questioned Russia’s sincerity regarding peace, wondering if it was simply stalling for time. Meanwhile, Trump condemned Russia's violent acts and warned of heightened sanctions if progress wasn’t seen.

With Putin's unwavering stance, Kremlin ally Alexander Lukashenko critiqued Trump's deadlines, suggesting they lacked political weight. Putin’s comments indicate a continuing commitment to Russia's military objectives over external pressures, raising doubts about the feasibility of an immediate ceasefire, reported the BBC.

Looking ahead, the US and its allies face the challenge of enforcing any potential sanctions effectively. With hints from Ukrainian officials of support from the US, anticipation builds around further developments.

Meanwhile, Trump's envoy is set for talks in Russia, with hopes of reigniting negotiations for peace.

As the August deadline for Trump’s ultimatum approaches, both diplomatic and military dynamics are expected to shape the future dialogue. For now, with Russia’s continued advances, the battlefield remains the central theatre, overshadowing diplomatic wrappers.

As he has been doing ever since Trump became president again, because it's quite clear that he doesn't give a rat's a$$ what Trump says and has been playing him all along, but poor old Donnie is too dumb to see it, but what can you expect from a "near retard".

Steve Witkoff................A former real estate developer with no formal diplomatic background.....what could possibly go wrong

I wonder if the peace talks have been sidelined as Witless negotiates a deal to build a Trump Tower next to Red Square

The deal can be made but the Eu countries that have been fuelling the war only want they outcome which is not going to happen as Putin already controls the land he wanted.

Could have all been aboueed back in April 22, but Boris Johnson sabotaged it.

Funny that MAGAs are no longer claiming that the invasion would not have started if Trump had been President, because Putin is afraid of Trump! 🤣
