The Lamphun Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO) has begun trial operations of its new electric bus service, with plans to officially launch the environmentally friendly public transport system in the near future.

On 4 August, PAO President Mr. Weeradej Phupisit, widely known as “Mayor Heng,” led the first test drive of the EV bus system. He was joined by PAO Deputy President Mr. Pairat Yasanga, Secretary to the President Mr. Ratchaphan Yasanga and members of the organisation’s strategic planning team.

The trial included a simulated route through central Lamphun city, testing stop-and-go services at designated stations, evaluating accessibility for wheelchair users and calculating optimal travel distances to ensure efficiency and practicality before the system is fully rolled out.

“This pilot project marks a key step forward in modernising Lamphun’s public transport,” said Mr. Weeradej. “We are committed to sustainability and better mobility for all residents, including people with disabilities.”

The Lamphun PAO noted that route planning is still in progress. However, early maps shared by local Facebook users suggest the electric buses will serve three main routes, passing key locations including schools, hospitals, shopping centres, sports complexes and industrial estates.

The new EV bus service forms part of the province’s long-term commitment to environmentally sustainable urban development and is expected to significantly enhance local transit options once fully operational.

Those Geely buses are really good, would fit well for Bangkok traffic jam roads because the range is about 350km.

it's got 240kW motor with 2800NM peak torque, powered by the 338kWh battery.

What about introducing them to Chiangmai, would they get past the Tuktuk/Seelaor mafia?

Chiangmai is crying out for a properly regulated and reliable Public Transport service.
