Rescue teams responded to a fatal incident on the morning of 4 August, after a white Nissan car driver appeared to have lost control and crashed into a roadside marker on the Lampang–Ngao Road, between kilometre markers 768 and 900, in Ban Huai Tak village, Ban Huad subdistrict, Ngao district, Lampang province.

At approximately 07:30, highway rescue volunteers from Ngao district, alongside Lampoon and Lampang rescue associations, received a report from a passerby about a vehicle that had collided with a roadside marker.

Upon arrival, rescuers found the driver, a foreign male, was found unconscious inside the car. After knocking on the door with no response, rescuers forced entry. The man was discovered unresponsive with no pulse and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased was identified as Mr René Patrick Strasser, a  French national, who was identified as being diabetic and whose passport and driving licence listed his residence as Lampang–Mae Tha Road, Phra Bat subdistrict, Mueang Lampang district.

Local residents reported that the car had been spotted  stationary since around 20:00 the previous evening. Initially, they assumed the vehicle was parked and the driver resting inside. However, when the car remained in the same position the next morning, it was clear that the car had crashed into the side of the road and authorities were alerted.

The police assigned rescue teams to transport the body to hospital, for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death, as the investigation into the incident continues.

If someone had been with him, his chances of survival would probably have been higher.
