A 78-year-old man has been arrested in Khon Kaen after a disturbing incident in which he attacked a 13-year-old boy with a large knife, leaving the child injured. The assault, which took place in the village of Sawang Makka, Don Han Subdistrict, Mueang Khon Kaen District, was captured on video and has caused widespread outrage online.

The video footage shows the suspect, identified as Mr Lop, confronting the boy as he was walking past his house on his way to visit an older friend. Without provocation, Mr Lop threatened the boy with a knife approximately 30 centimetres long, struck him, and then pursued him into a nearby house. He slashed the boy at the back of the neck, causing heavy bleeding and knocking him to the ground.

After the assault, Mr Lop can be seen putting away the weapon and then kicking the person filming the incident. Bystanders quickly intervened to stop further violence.

Police Colonel Prateep Panyowat, Superintendent of Tha Phra Police Station, confirmed that the boy’s family filed a police report following the attack. Officers apprehended Mr Lop on 4 August and seized the knife as evidence.

He has been charged with unlawful entry into a dwelling while armed, assault causing injury and carrying a weapon in public without just cause. Mr Lop reportedly confessed to all charges and has been handed over to the court for prosecution.

Neighbours described Mr Lop as a hot-tempered man known for his aggressive behaviour. Several residents claimed he often became irritated with local children and that this violent act was triggered by his annoyance. Despite being taken into custody, witnesses say the suspect has shown no remorse and even issued threats to others in the community, vowing retaliation once he is released.

The young victim is recovering from his injuries, while community members are calling for stricter measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
