A shocking incident unfolded in Nong Kung Si District of Kalasin Province on 5 August, when a 26-year-old man violently attacked and killed his own father near a rural hut in the village of Na Mun, prompting police to immediately arrest the suspect and lay charges.

Police from Nong Kung Si Station responded after being alerted to the attack. The victim, 60-year-old Mr Somyot Phungamnin, was found with severe injuries outside a hut located to the north of Ban Na Mun in Nong Yai subdistrict. Emergency responders provided initial medical assistance and rushed him to Nong Kung Si Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Officers at the scene discovered extensive bloodstains on the ground. A preliminary investigation confirmed that the assailant was the victim’s biological son, Mr Kittiporn Phungamnin, who lived at the same address. He was immediately taken into custody and later brought back to the scene for a crime re-enactment as part of the investigation process.

Police are now compiling forensic evidence and awaiting official autopsy results to complete the case file. The suspect has been formally charged with parenticide.

Deputy Inspector Pol Lt Jadech Phetpranee, along with Nong Kung Si Police Superintendent Pol Col Seehachat Pornjanya and other senior officers, led the response and investigation. Authorities say they will continue to conduct a thorough inquiry to determine the motive behind this disturbing crime and will ensure the suspect is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
