Thailand and the United States have reaffirmed their longstanding defence partnership with the annual “Crimson Viper 2025” military technology demonstration, focusing on border security, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

Admiral Suppat Yutthawong, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Defence, presided over the opening ceremony of the event, held at the Multipurpose Building of the Royal Thai Marine Corps Headquarters in Sattahip, Chonburi. The event was attended by high-ranking Thai and foreign military officials, including Lieutenant General Athapong Pitchayaporn, Director of the Defence Science and Technology Department; Dr. Martin F. Lindsey representing the United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) and defence representatives from allied nations such as Australia, South Korea and Singapore.

Organised by the The Department of Defence Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Royal Thai Navy and USINDOPACOM, Crimson Viper 2025 featured demonstrations and field testing of military innovations developed by both nations. A total of 36 projects were showcased, 22 by Thai agencies and 14 from the US.

Over the past two decades, Thailand and the United States have conducted joint trials on hundreds of military technologies. Some of these, such as the XPAK explosive residue detection system, the “Phraselator” automatic translation device, unmanned robotic systems and water purification units for flood relief, have already been adapted for real-world use.

This year’s demonstration included a wide array of defence technologies, such as counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS), counter-improvised explosive device systems (C-IED), and border security operations. Humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR) capabilities were also featured. The US contingent presented advanced UAVs, maritime surveillance and detection systems, communications technologies and anti-drone systems.

Since its inception in 2008, the Crimson Viper event has rotated annually between Thailand’s armed forces branches as co-hosts. Each edition includes research exhibitions, live technology demonstrations, academic seminars, panel discussions and After Action Review (AAR) sessions to support continuous improvement and cooperation.

The event continues to serve as a vital platform for strengthening military ties and enhancing mutual defence capabilities between Thailand and its international partners.
