Two Vietnamese nationals have been apprehended by the Southern Police District (SPD) for allegedly posing as doctors and conducting unlicensed medical procedures at a beauty clinic in Barangay Poblacion, Makati City. The operation, which took place on Thursday, 7th August, highlights ongoing concerns about illegal medical practices in the area.

The suspects, referred to by their aliases Van and Thi, aged 36 and 35 respectively, were caught following a tip-off from a confidential informant. This information prompted the District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) and Makati City Police to set up an entrapment operation targeting the unlicensed activities reported at their clinic.

An undercover officer, posing as a client, was able to confirm that the suspects were performing procedures such as Botox injections and dermal filler applications without the necessary medical licences. This risky practice not only violates Philippine law but also endangers public safety.

Upon arrest, the individuals failed to produce any legal documentation or accreditation to validate their medical activities. Authorities recovered a substantial array of equipment and materials including boxes of Botox, mesotherapy solutions, syringes, microcannula needles, surgical supplies, and anaesthetics. Additionally, they found client forms, official receipts, sales invoices, identification cards, and cash, including the marked money used in the operation.

The suspects are now facing charges under Republic Act 2382, also known as The Medical Act of 1959, which outlines regulations for the legal practice of medicine in the Philippines.

SPD Director Brig. Gen. Randy Arceo praised the rapid and effective response of the police. "This operation sends a strong message: the illegal practice of medicine will never be tolerated in our jurisdiction. We will protect the public from unlicensed individuals who put lives at risk for profit," he stated.

Brig. Gen. Arceo also urged the public to remain vigilant. "The Southern Police District encourages everyone to verify the credentials of medical practitioners before undergoing any procedure and to report any suspicious activities through our SPD hotline or nearest police station."

These arrests underscore the critical need for ongoing vigilance and community cooperation to combat illegal medical practices, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the public. With the continued effort and awareness, authorities aim to uphold the law and prevent similar incidents in the future.
