A 21-year-old nursing student was killed in the early hours, after her motorcycle was struck by a speeding black car in Nakhon Phanom. The driver fled the scene but later surrendered to police.

The victim, Ms Parichat “Lily”, a second-year nursing student at Nakhon Phanom College of Nursing, was riding pillion on a friend’s motorcycle when the collision occurred around 03.30 on 17 August, on the bypass road in front of a car showroom in Nong Yat subdistrict, Mueang Nakhon Phanom.

She was pronounced dead at the scene with severe head injuries after being thrown onto the road. Her companion, Mr Rapeepat, 18, a vocational student, sustained multiple injuries and was taken to hospital.

Police investigators said the motorcycle, a white-blue Honda Wave, had been hit violently from behind. Debris from the offending vehicle, identified as a black Honda City, was found scattered across the road. CCTV footage from nearby traffic lights later confirmed the car involved.

Lily, originally from Kalasin province, had been working part-time at an entertainment venue to support her family. On the night of the accident she had finished work around 03:00 and called her friend to pick her up on his motorcycle to return to her dormitory near the nursing college.

As they travelled along the four-lane bypass, a car approached at high speed and slammed into the rear of their motorcycle. The impact killed Lily instantly while the car sped away without stopping.

Her death has left her family devastated. Relatives described her as the hope of the household, working and studying hard to become a nurse.

By early afternoon the same day, the driver of the black Honda Citypresented himself at Mueang Nakhon Phanom Police Station, admitting responsibility. Police confirmed that the car bore clear signs of collision damage on the front right side.

An investigation is under way and charges are to follow.
