An incident occurred in Huai Rat district, Buriram province, when a 61-year-old road roller driver was killed after his vehicle suddenly fell and sank into a canal.

Police Lieutenant Suthee Dasri, Deputy Inspector of Huai Rat Police Station, reported that emergency teams, including local rescue volunteers, were called to the scene on the canal-side road connecting Ban Ta Sao and Mueang Pho subdistricts.

The canal at the site is approximately three metres deep. Rescuers found a three-wheeled road roller, weighing around 10 tonnes, overturned in the water. The driver, Mr. Sawat Pimchan, was trapped under the vehicle.

Due to the vehicle’s weight, rescue teams were unable to free him immediately and had to call for a crane. After more than two hours, the road roller was lifted from the water, revealing Mr. Sawat’s body.

A colleague, Mr. Thod Chattan, 55, who had been travelling with Mr. Sawat, explained that they were moving the roller to a transport vehicle after completing work. “As he tried to steer around a partially asphalted road, the ground beneath the canal gave way, causing the vehicle to overturn. I managed to jump clear, but Mr. Sawat was trapped at the wheel,” he said.

Police are investigating to determine the cause of the incident.
