Bangkok police have seized a cache of firearms, ammunition and a CS smoke grenade during a raid on a housing project in Bang Khun Thian district, arresting a 25-year-old man suspected of stockpiling weapons, with links to a well-known technical college.

Officers from Tha Kham Police Station moved in on the suspect’s apartment at the Eua-Arthorn housing project on 22 August after receiving intelligence that he was frequently seen carrying a firearm.

When police arrived, the man allegedly attempted to evade them but was quickly detained. A search of his third-floor room uncovered a homemade pistol, a .32-calibre pistol with three rounds of ammunition and a CS smoke grenade.

The suspect reportedly confessed that the weapons had been given to him for safekeeping by a former senior student from a prominent Pathumwan-based technical college.

Pol Col Wichayanon Ektasang, Tha Kham station chief, said the suspect has been charged with unlawful possession of firearms, explosives and ammunition. He has been handed over to investigators along with the seized items for further legal action.

Authorities are now probing possible links between the cache and recent incidents of student violence in Bangkok.
