Updates and events in the War in Ukraine 2025
Well Hungary is a member of NATO and their critical security infrastructure has been hit by a so called friend. I would say the increasing caution countries with borders on Russia to be prudent unlike the Baltics with large Russian populations with the loudest most strident voices. Kallas is almost deranged in her stridency yet her husband had Russian business interests until he was outed. They also were the most fanatical Nazis back in WW2 very enthusiaistic in rounding up jews and others to be exterminated. If they want to build the new Maginot line and spend 50% of their GDP on defence - go ahead why not but common sesne would say probably better to try diplomacy with your psychotic much larger neighbour and show some fealty. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/aug/28/estonia-pm-under-pressure-husband-russian-alleged-business-links-kaja-kallas -

Transport Chiang Rai Airport Expansion: Aiming for Aviation Hub Status
Chiang Rai is on the brink of a significant transformation, with a 5.7-billion-baht initiative set to modernise Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai International Airport. This ambitious project, backed by Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT), aims to establish the province as Thailand’s next aviation powerhouse. Squadron Leader Somchanok Thiemthiabrat, the Airport General Manager, unveiled plans for a substantial terminal upgrade designed to manage a surge in air traffic. Scheduled for completion by 2032, the new terminal will increase passenger capacity from 1.9 million to an impressive 6 million annually. "The new terminal is crucial for Chiang Rai's advancement," Somchanok stated. "Reaching a 7-million-passenger target in seven years will require joint efforts from all stakeholders." AoT has commissioned consultants to commence the conceptual design of the state-of-the-art terminal. The development is set on the airport’s 753-rai site, with 50 rai earmarked for a specialised Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) centre. Somchanok highlighted that the MRO facility is a response to increased regional demand and a strategic move to position Thailand as a leader in the aerospace industry. "With China poised to become the largest air transport market globally, Thailand’s geographical location and cost advantages make it an ideal base for MRO services," he explained. The centre will handle extensive aircraft maintenance processes, from repair and disassembly to assembly and full-service upkeep, rivaling similar facilities in Singapore. Having passed the necessary environmental impact assessments, the MRO project is set to begin construction imminently, as reported by the Bangkok Post. These developments form part of AoT’s overarching strategy to transform Chiang Rai into an “Air Metropolis,” serving as a pivotal regional aviation hub that promises economic growth and enhanced global connectivity. “This initiative goes beyond mere tourism," Somchanok added. "It's about positioning Chiang Rai as a key logistics, transport, and aviation centre." The expansion at Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai International Airport is not just an infrastructure upgrade but a vision for regional development. By focusing on both passenger travel and aeronautical services, Chiang Rai is poised to become a significant player in Southeast Asia’s aviation sector. This transformation is expected to drive both local and international economic opportunities, positioning Chiang Rai as a hub of connectivity and innovation in the coming years. Middle East Israel Launches Massive Gaza Strikes Ahead of Major Offensive
Israeli air strikes hit areas around Gaza City on Sunday, local civil defence said, as the military pressed ahead with plans for a major offensive on what it sees as the last stronghold of Hamas. Fighting also escalated in Jabalia, just north of the city. Gaza's civil defence agency reported at least 42 people killed in Israeli attacks on Sunday, as the Israeli army prepared for a new assault on the Palestinian territory's largest city. Civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal said there had been several air strikes around Gaza City – which the military is gearing up to capture – including one in the Al-Sabra neighbourhood that killed eight people.
