Two excavators, a pile driver tower and workers’ accommodation were deliberately set on fire in Pattani province in what authorities suspect was a deliberate attempt to disrupt local development projects.

The incident occurred at around 03:00 on 25;August, in Ban Makor, Moo 1, Plong Hoi subdistrict, Kapho district, according to a report from the 4410 Ranger Company. Local officials notified security forces after discovering the extensive blaze.

Troops and local administrators who inspected the scene found that the excavators and other machinery had been heavily damaged, while nearby workers’ quarters suffered partial destruction. Fortunately, no one was present at the site and there were no injuries or fatalities.

The site forms part of a government irrigation and road development project aimed at improving infrastructure in the southern border provinces. Authorities are currently assessing the total financial damage, which is believed to run into several million baht.

Officials suspect the attack may have been politically or criminally motivated, designed to create unrest and obstruct government development work. Arson against construction equipment is a known tactic used in the region to instil fear and disrupt public projects.

Investigators are now collecting evidence, reviewing nearby CCTV footage, and interviewing residents in the surrounding area to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
