Residents of a rural community in Kabin Buri district were left stunned after the body of a man was discovered hanging beneath a high-voltage electricity pylon on a remote mountain peak.

Police said the grim discovery was reported by village headman Chatchawan Duangsui, after a local resident stumbled across the body while foraging for vegetables in the forest.

Investigators and rescue volunteers trekked nearly a kilometre up the steep hillside to reach the site, located on Hua Phu Mountain in Ban Na, Moo 1. They found the decomposed body suspended by a vine, with clothing strewn on the ground nearby. The corpse, dried out from days of exposure to the sun, was almost severed at the neck by the weight of the hanging body.

A red T-shirt and a pair of white sandals were found close to the scene. On the left arm, officers noted a tattoo reading “Ae loves Orn”. Locals told police that a man known as Ae, a casual labourer, had gone missing from the village three to four weeks earlier. At the time, neighbours assumed he had left for work elsewhere, but the tattoo strongly suggests the body may be his.

The remains were carried down the mountain by volunteers in a difficult operation before being sent to Kabin Buri Hospital for forensic examination to confirm the man’s identity.

Authorities said relatives will be contacted once identification is verified.
