A Thai soldier has tragically lost his foot after stepping on a landmine in Surin province, prompting Bangkok to explore military responses. Lt. Gen. Boonsin Padklang, commander of the Second Army Region, has criticised Cambodia, accusing their forces of breaching a ceasefire and the Ottawa Convention by laying new anti-personnel mines.

The incident occurred as Private Adisorn Pomklang of the 23rd Infantry Regiment was on patrol near Prasat Ta Kwai, Surin. The landmine, reportedly made of plastic, evaded detection by explosive devices during the patrol, leading to the horrific accident that severely injured Private Pomklang, resulting in the loss of his right foot.

Lt Gen Boonsin highlighted that Hill 350, a location under Cambodian troop control, is riddled with mines. He expressed concerns over the escalating tensions as Thai soldiers face increased threats from these hidden explosives. The loss has amplified calls for decisive action as Bangkok deliberates its next steps in this tense border conflict.
