A 47-year-old drug dealer in Chon Buri found himself in a hospital bed after a dramatic sting operation took a life-threatening turn.

The operation unfolded on Thetsaban Huai Yai 1 Road, Soi 36, Huai Yai subdistrict, when officials from the Bang Lamung district, backed by local volunteers, targeted a notorious dealer. Known as Chang Huay Yai, the suspect, named Itthisak, was apprehended after tip-offs from arrested users pointed to his alleged involvement in supplying drugs to minor dealers.

To catch him in the act, officials planned a purchase of 50 grammes of crystal meth. The suspect initially presented the drugs to an undercover officer, but once he realised the presence of law enforcement, chaos ensued.

Panicked, Itthisak locked his house, fleeing to the bathroom where he attempted to dispose of the evidence. In a frantic effort, he tried flushing drugs down the toilet and sink. Cornered, he turned to the dangerous measure of ingesting a portion of the drugs.

Once officials managed to access the bathroom with special equipment, they discovered hundreds of methamphetamine pills scattered across the sink and multiple plastic bags on the floor. In total, they seized 32.47 grammes of crystal meth and 920 methamphetamine pills, collectively worth an estimated 1 million Thai Baht.

After ingesting the drugs, Itthisak lost consciousness and was rushed to Chon Buri Hospital. While his current condition is stable, medical professionals are closely monitoring him due to the severity of drug ingestion.

This incident mirrors a recent event in Samut Prakan, where a 40-year-old drug dealer attempted to evade capture by swallowing nearly 100 methamphetamine pills. In a similar twist, his attempt ended in a hospital admission, illustrating the desperate measures individuals in the drug trade may resort to when cornered.

These incidents underscore the ongoing challenges faced by Thai authorities in tackling drug trafficking. The swift operation by the Chon Buri officials is a testament to their commitment, but the situation also highlights the lengths to which dealers will go to avoid capture.

As the community comprehends the dramatic events, it serves as a reminder of the continuous efforts required to combat the illicit drug trade. The involvement of local volunteers in these operations signifies the crucial role of community support in addressing such issues.

While Itthisak recovers under vigilant medical care, the authorities remain vigilant, aiming to dismantle further networks and prevent similar incidents. It’s a stark reminder that the fight against drugs is ongoing, requiring collective vigilance and action across all fronts.
