Authorities have raided a restaurant operating as an entertainment venue in South Pattaya after receiving complaints of loud noise and the illegal sale of kratom-infused drinks.

The inspection, conducted at 05:05 by senior district officials led by Patcharaphat Srithanyanont, followed reports to the Damrongtham Centre regarding the establishment’s extended operating hours and suspected illicit activity.

The venue, located behind several guesthouses, functioned as a barbecue-style restaurant while secretly operating like a nightclub, complete with live music and alcohol service. Large numbers of patrons were present when authorities arrived.

Officials shut down the music, checked identification, conducted vehicle searches and carried out urine tests for drugs. While no illegal items were found on the premises, five individuals, including staff and customers, tested positive, showing so-called “purple urine,” indicating recent drug use.

Further investigation revealed that the venue was illegally selling boiled kratom drinks, known locally as “Si Khun Roi.” Those who tested positive were taken for registration at Bang Lamung district office and entered into a treatment programme. The restaurant manager faces charges for operating a venue without a licence, selling alcohol beyond legal hours and illegally selling kratom drinks. The case has been forwarded to Pattaya City Police for further legal action.
