A 30-year-old man has been taken into custody after fatally shooting a neighbour in Ban Thaen District, Chaiyaphum Province, following a dispute over a late-night drinking session.

Police were alerted during light rain to reports of a shooting along a village road in Nong Khu Subdistrict. Officers from Ban Thaen Police Station, together with rescue units and the on-duty doctor from Ban Thaen Hospital, attended the scene.

Authorities found the victim, Mr. Khamkhwan, 47, lying in the middle of the road, shirtless and wearing only shorts. He had been shot four times, twice in the temple and twice in the torso and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial investigations revealed that the shooter, Mr. Thanon Sak, 30, had fled the scene after using a .357 Smith & Wesson handgun. Witnesses reported that earlier in the evening, a group of four had been drinking in the village. Around 03:00, Mr. Khamkhwan reportedly began making a loud disturbances in the street, which angered Mr. Thanon, who had been asleep in his home.

According to police statements, Mr. Thanon retrieved his handgun, confronted the victim and fired four shots, killing him instantly. He later surrendered to police the following morning along with the weapon and empty shell casings.

Mr. Thanon has admitted to the shooting, claiming he was provoked by the victim’s disruptive behaviour. Authorities have charged him with murder, illegal possession of a firearm and carrying a weapon in a public place without valid reason. He is currently in custody pending further legal proceedings.

Police continue to investigate the incident and have coordinated with forensic teams to examine the scene and confirm the details of the shooting.
