A construction site in Buri Ram turned into a crime scene after a dispute between two Myanmar migrant workers ended in tragedy. A 49-year-old man struck a female co-worker repeatedly with an iron bar after she spat at him, leaving her fatally injured.

The attack took place on 31 August at the construction site of Buri Ram Hospital 2 in Khao Kradong, Mueang district. Police from Mueang Buri Ram Station, led by Pol Lt Pitak Singkham, arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect, identified as Mr Ton Zaw, a Myanmar national. Officers also recovered the weapon, a steel reinforcing bar.

The victim, Ms Shin Ma Thui, 25, was taken to Buri Ram Hospital with severe head injuries but later died.

During questioning, the suspect admitted to hitting the woman three times on the head, claiming he had only intended to “teach her a lesson” and did not expect her to die. He told police the pair had been in conflict for some time, with the victim frequently insulting him and spitting at him during work. On the day of the incident, she allegedly cursed him and spat at him again during the lunch break, prompting his violent retaliation.

The Thai site manager confirmed there were 47 workers on site, 21 Thai and 26 Myanmar nationals and that the two migrants often clashed. The victim had only been working at the site for four months, alongside her husband.

Mr Ton has been charged with assault causing death and will face prosecution.
