Tiger Woods Wins Pga Championship

Featured Replies

To no one's surprise, Tiger Woods won the PGA Championship today at Southern Hills CC in Tulsa, OK. Woods took a two-shot lead into the final round and maintained that lead throughout, shooting a one-under-par 69 for an aggregate of 272. Tour journeyman Woodie Austin finished second, two shots behind, after a closing 67. Ernie Els was third at 275. The victory was not easy for Woods, who saw an early five-shot lead dissipate to only one shot mid-way through the final round. But Woods birdied the 15th hole to give him the final margin of victory. It was Woods' 13th major championship in his career, but his first of the year. He finished second in both the Masters and the U.S. Open.

He goes beyond being a mere sportsman. He's an icon.

In years to come he will be seen as this generation's equivalent of Muhammad Ali.

He's only 5 away from Jack Nicklaus world record of 18 Majors. Before he's done, he'll rewrite the record books, and definitively will be considered the greatest golfer to ever play the game. I had the pleasure of watching him in person once.

For any of you who have any doubts whatsoever of Tiger's preeminent place in world history, read today's story from Yahoo sports national columnist. He will be Muhammad Ali, Wayne Gretsky, David Beckham/Pele, Montana and everyone else combined...squared, or maybe even cubed.

Tiger best ever to play the game
