Funeral Fund Members Claim Loss of 3 Million Baht

Dozens of members of a funeral welfare association in Suphan Buri have lodged a complaint after discovering that more than 3 million baht had gone missing from the group’s funds. The shortfall is believed to have been caused by a collector failing to forward payments to the association for more than three years.

On 5 September, around 60 affected members gathered at Muang Suphan Buri Police Station to raise the issue with the provincial Damrongtham Centre. The association, based in Tha Phi Liang subdistrict, Muang District, has around 260 members in total, with the losses reported primarily by residents of Moo 3, Khok Khothao.

According to representatives, families normally receive around 140,000 baht in welfare support upon the death of a member, with around 130,000 baht paid out after administrative fees. However, members were recently informed that payouts may no longer be possible, as the money collected from them had not been remitted to the association. Until this disclosure, members said they had never been warned of any irregularities.

Police chief Pol Col Wanchai Khaoram, district deputy chief Chittati Rumnet, and officials from the Damrongtham Centre received the complaint and listened to the grievances. It was agreed that no criminal charges would be filed immediately. Instead, district officials will call a meeting on 10 September at 13:30 at the Muang Suphan Buri District Office, bringing together government agencies, complainants and the association’s registered committee to seek a resolution.

If no agreement is reached, affected members say they will consider pursuing legal action against those responsible.
