Police in Suphan Buri have arrested a man who evaded capture for three years after being implicated in a fatal shooting in Bangkok’s Khlong Toei district.

At around 08:00 on 5 September, officers from the Highway Police units in Sri Prachan and Salie, Suphan Buri, executed an arrest warrant issued by the Bangkok South Criminal Court. The suspect, identified only as Mr. Sontaya, a resident of Khlong Toei’s Pattana Mai community, was detained on charges of homicide, firearms offences and evading court proceedings.

The warrant, dated 30 October 2023, stemmed from a violent incident on 18 July 2022 in the Thepparat community, Khlong Toei. That night, a group of armed men opened fire in the street, killing a 29-year-old man in full view of residents. Police investigators from Lumpini station later identified eight suspects, including Mr. Sontaya, who fled the capital shortly after the attack.

Following a tip-off, officers tracked the fugitive to Tha Phi Liang subdistrict in Mueang Suphan Buri. He was found walking in the area and, when confronted with the warrant, admitted his identity. He was subsequently taken into custody and transferred to Bangkok South Criminal Court to face trial.

Police confirmed that Mr. Sontaya had been hiding in Suphan Buri since the shooting, successfully evading arrest for three years until his capture this week.
