A 74-year-old British man has died after falling from the 10th floor of a hotel in the heart of Pattaya.

Police identified the victim as a British national, Keith Jones, who had been staying alone in a room on the 10th floor. He was discovered lying face down beside the hotel on Pattaya Second Road. He was wearing only black swimming shorts, and rescue workers confirmed he had sustained multiple fractures and severe bleeding.

The incident happened at around 17.30 on 6 September. Witnesses reported hearing a loud crash, described as similar to a transformer explosion, before finding the man on the ground. Hotel staff quickly screened off the area to prevent distress to other guests and tourists.

One hotel security officer said he was only a few metres away when he heard the sound. Rushing over, he found the man still breathing faintly but unable to be saved.

Investigators later confirmed that the Briton had been staying in room 1079. A police search of the room found no signs of disturbance, theft or forced entry. CCTV footage examined from the day of the incident showed no one else entering or leaving the room.

Deputy Investigation Inspector Pol Lt Manasak Polyeam said the cause of the fall remains under investigation. It is not yet clear whether the man slipped, jumped or was pushed. His body has been sent to the Police General Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine in Bangkok for a post-mortem examination.

Police are interviewing hotel staff and reviewing further security footage. The British Embassy in Bangkok has been notified.
