My recent visit to the hospital  has raised the issue of medication cost once again so will try and pass on what I picked up.

My wife who is always looking to save money got in touch with her neice and asked her to look into it. The neice is a doctor and came back that rivaroxaban was now available to hospitals in Thailand at about 13 baht. I was very sceptical about this and had a look into it. It would appear that the patent on Xarelto ran out earlier this year and that generic equivalents are becoming available. On seeing this I checked a source I am aware off and they have listed a generic manufactured by Natco at 35 cents USD. It may be worth those taking/or could take Xarelto to enquire at hospitals.

Not so good for those on apixaban. Apparently the patent on Elquis came to an end in 2019  and the FDA did give approval for generic production, but that got delayed until Nov 2026 due to ongoing litigation. Generic apixaban has been produced for some years and widely availabe in some countries but looks like may be some time yet before that happens in Thailand.

My condition favours apixaban so I personally will not be making any enquiry at the hospital in respect of the rivaroxaban.
