Canada passport renewal, 4-6 weeks

Featured Replies

The Canada Chiang Mai Consulate's web site claims 20 day processing time for passport renewal.  Today, Sep. 9, 2025 they told me it will take 4-6 weeks.

I dropped the application, photos and payment receipt (paid online in C$) this AM and asked for the new passport to be sent to the Consulate.  It's only a 15 minute drive from home and I think it is a more secure delivery method.

You can pay online in C$ with a credit/debit card, save and print the receipt and submit it with your application.  Currently the fee is C$260 for a 10 year adult passport which is just under 6K ฿ or you can pay with a Thai bank draft for 6500฿.

Bonne chance!

Switzerland, two weeks after application at consulate in Bangkok it was in the letter box sent by EMS. Paid 6xxx Baht with QR code Thai banking.

I had the option to have the old passport cancelled at the application.

So being with cancelled passport for the two weeks.

Took that risk.

Advantage: no sending in the old passport before new one is sent or even picking up at another visit like the Germans!

I have 450 km/6 hours to the consulate

I hope you the excuse the deflection of the topic.

I have no problem with hitchhikers.... we're all headed the same direction.

I wish Canada gave me the option to cancel but keep the old passport.  I would only use if for identification at the bank, etc.  Now I need to transfer some money into Thailand and almost all methods require my passport at some stage.  I may be stuck using the ATM or perhaps use the old Bangkok bank New York method while waiting.

Update:

Dropped off the payment receipt and my old passport on Sep. 9, 2025.

Sep. 25 they called and said I can pick up the new and old one!

I don't need an appointment for the pickup.  Just need to show up before 2PM.

I hope they didn't previously tell me 4-6 weeks just to increase my satisfaction when delivered much sooner!  LOL

Better service overseas

I started the renewal process for my 14yo son's Canadian passport last September and got the new passport in January.

Applied in Edmonton, in person at Service Canada downtown.

Water pipe broke in the building flooding the passport office.  4 weeks to relocate the office and staff to a temp building

Canada Post goes on strike halting all delivery's. 6 weeks of no mail

Passport office, realizing I'm a single father insists of having mothers signed permission

Two months of back and forth proving she's in a Thai prison and unable to

-sign anything

-contact her by phone

-contact her by e-mail

-contact her by social media

She's in a Thai prison FFS.

Passport application/renewal in Bangkok was a breeze

I renewed mt Cdn PP 2 years ago. It took 2 weeks and was mailed to my door in Pattaya. Painless and easy. No visit to Bkk required.
