Myanmar Airstrike Kills 22 at Rakhine Boarding School

A deadly airstrike by Myanmar’s military has killed 22 people—most of them children—at a private boarding school in Rakhine State, sparking international outrage and renewed calls for civilian protection.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Friday morning in Thayet Tabin Village, Kyauktaw Township, an area under the control of the Arakan Army (AA). Two 500-pound bombs were dropped on Pyinnya Pan Khinn High School and surrounding buildings, flattening classrooms and hostels where students were sleeping.

Local media and AA sources confirmed that 18 children died instantly, with four more succumbing to injuries later that day. Photographs from the scene show mangled debris and shattered walls, with nearby homes also damaged. No ground fighting was reported at the time, and residents insist the area was not an active combat zone.

The junta has not acknowledged the strike, though pro-military accounts online claim the AA was using the village for troop training. Independent verification remains difficult due to communication blackouts in the region.

This is the deadliest single attack on a school since the AA launched its offensive in Rakhine last November. The group now controls 14 of the state’s 17 townships, as well as parts of neighbouring Chin State. Junta forces have responded with intensified aerial bombardments, killing over 100 civilians in Rakhine since January.

UNICEF issued a statement condemning the strike, calling it part of a “pattern of increasingly devastating violence” against children. “Schools must remain safe havens, not targets,” the agency said.

As fighting escalates along Rakhine’s borders with Ayeyarwady and Bago, humanitarian groups warn of worsening conditions for displaced families and children caught in the crossfire.

The tragedy in Thayet Tabin underscores the brutal toll of Myanmar’s civil conflict—a war where classrooms have become battlegrounds, and the youngest are paying the highest price.

And the International Community still talks to the Genocidal Junta morons - WHY?

The Generals should be arrested and put on trial for crimes against humanity - with death sentences where applicable!

To hell with China. Let a strong and brave man take humanitarian decisions against the Junta without Chinese influence - i would if I could!

The big game of chess do not work like that, one move doesn't give one clear counterbalance results
